I :  Portrait One

I looked for you or some sign of you. You said that you had no idea what gessoing was and why I was spending so much time on it. Or maybe you were wondering why I use ink? Anyway, I am here and not ignoring you.

You can use my words in anyway that you like. Did I tell you? I am sure that you will be fair. It seems the more of them I paint the more ideas I get ... so I will likely be working on this theme for a while. I would hope it was yours though. I think about the story and possibilities of the painting fitting some sort of story line, but since I never know where the story is going I can't really anticipate. There will be those days when you don't feel like writing, or I don't feel like painting and it will be reflected in the work in someway, either amount, size (which doesn't matter I have been told), attitude, finish... and that in itself is something that I find very interesting.

I think though, that sometimes we get caught up in our own views of ourselves and think that they are accurate. At the cultural village I met a guy the same age as me only he was about 4.5 ft. tall. I think we tend to look more at our shortcomings, magnify them and assume that that is what others see when they look at us. Which reminds me that I told you I would do that for you. Maybe I should. Hmmm, I was going to explain gessoing to you but perhaps later. See you soon, I hope...
